The Wellington Garden Railway Group came into existence through a group of "G" scalers meeting informally at Mack's Track Hobby Shop on a monthly basis. Occasionally running days were held at members homes. In early 2007 it was decided that the group should organise a "Garden Railway Mini Convention". This was held over the weekend of 17-18 March 2007 in the Linden Social Hall with 37 "G Scalers" attending. Clinic/workshops were conducted on the Saturday morning with visits to 4 garden railways being organised for the afternoon. A Dinner filled in Saturday night. On Sunday a visit was made to a Garden Centre that featured a Garden Railway. Many plants were purchased. Following this was a visit to Mack's Track were many further purchases were made.
The second "Garden Railway Convention" was held at the Tawa Rugby Football Club, Tawa over the weekend of 15-16 March 2008. Clinics, workshops and layout visits were the order of the day with Dinner at the Tawa Rugby Rugby Football Club on the Saturday night.
Regular monthly running days have been held throughout 2008, weather permitting, at members homes. These are generally held on the first Sunday following the first Wednesday of the month.
